Do you need a nanny — or just someone to do the school run?

If you live in Clapham, Battersea or Wandsworth and both parents work, you'll know the feeling. The school day ends at 3:30. Your working day doesn't. And the gap between the two has somehow become one of the most stressful parts of the week.

The usual answer is to hire a nanny. But for a lot of families, that's far more than they actually need.

The nanny question

A nanny is wonderful if you need in-home care — someone to cook, help with homework, and look after your children through the afternoon and evening. But hiring one is a big commitment. You become an employer, with payroll, National Insurance, holiday pay and a contract. You're paying for hours you may not need. And there's a stranger in your home on a regular basis.

For some families, that's exactly right. For many others, it's using a sledgehammer to crack a nut. Because the real problem isn't childcare at all.

It's the journey.

What if you just need the journey covered?

That's the gap KinRoute fills. We're not a nanny service. We do one thing, and we do it well: we get your child safely to and from school, activities and appointments — on foot and by public transport, never by car.

No one comes into your home. There's no contract to employ anyone, no payroll, no holiday pay. You simply pay for the journeys you use. A few school runs a week, a Saturday club, a dentist appointment across town — whatever fits your family.

Trusted, not just convenient

Handing your child to anyone takes trust, so that's where we start. Every KinRoute assistant is enhanced-DBS checked, safeguarding-trained and fully referenced before they ever accompany a child. And because we're a service rather than a single person, there's always reliable cover — you're never left stranded because one individual is off sick.

When a nanny is still the better choice

We'll always be honest about this: if you need someone in your home looking after your children for the afternoon, cooking and helping with homework, a nanny is the right call, not us.

But if what you really need is for your child to get from A to B safely, on time, without the cost and commitment of employing someone — that's exactly what we're here for.

Try us this summer

We're a new service launching across Clapham, Battersea and Wandsworth, and we'd love to help your family.

This summer, your first journey is on us. Single journeys are £45, or try five for £99 — no commitment, just a chance to see how much easier the week can be.
