London’s Magical Week. Golden leaves, early dusk and fireworks

There’s a moment every November when London feels quietly enchanting. The trees turn copper, the light fades by half past four, and the sky fills with colour for Bonfire Night.

Why do we celebrate?

On 5 November 1605, Guy Fawkes was caught guarding barrels of gunpowder beneath the Houses of Parliament, part of the Gunpowder Plot to kill King James I. Londoners lit bonfires to celebrate the king’s survival, and more than 400 years later we still light up the sky every November.

Make it magical

Chase the golden hour just after school pick-up, with a stroll through one of London’s golden parks.

Wrap up beautifully: wool hats, cosy scarves and a reflective detail, so little ones are easy to spot.

Bring ear defenders for younger children, and keep a quiet room with curtains drawn for pets.

Bring the warmth home with hot chocolate and a blanket by the window.

Tickets go fast, so book early through each organiser’s website, and enjoy the sparkle.
